Deemed Expendable

On March 9th, 2009, NEC Electronics America Inc executed a reduction in workforce. Unfortunately, I was deemed expendable and was one of the employees laid off on that day. It was both expected and a shock after 27 years of loyal service to the company serving in various capacities. I had survived five previous reductions in workforce. I hold no animosity towards NEC Electronics America Inc or it's management. It was an understandable business decision. Some of the executive decisions concerning my position were questionable prior to the layoff but again in light of the layoff they were smart business decisions even though they were not necessarily in my best interest. I recieved my severance package according to state law and company policy. Within three business days, I was asked to return to work for several days as a teaching consultant which I gladly did. My fellow co-workers who remained behind had no knowledge of my duties and processes and required training to allow them some hope of integrating my duties into their already overburdened workload. I still answer the occasional email or phone call when additional help is required.
